Here’s a Look at What’s on Local Ballots on April 1

School districts throughout Illinois are seeking approval from voters on referendums on the April 1 consolidated election ballot. Items up for a vote include bond issues, tax increases, a working cash fund, countywide sales tax propositions, and questions on how school board members should be elected and a dissolution of a district.

School districts known to be placing local bond issues before voters include:
  • Abingdon-Avon CUSD 276, $6 million, to build and equip an addition to Abingdon-Avon Middle School building.
  • Elverado CUSD 196 (Elkville), $11 million, to build and equip a new school building to serve P-8 grade levels.
  • Hollis Consolidated SD 328 (Peoria), $2.75 million, to alter, repair, and equip Hollis Grade School building, including increased security, accessibility, and educational spaces.
  • Kaneland CUSD 302 (Maple Park), $140.3 million, to alter, repair, and equip school buildings, including an addition of a fieldhouse at Kaneland High School.
  • LaGrange SD 102, $82 million, to build, equip, and repair school buildings, including improving safety, security and student accessibility to educational and outdoor spaces.
  • LaHarpe Community SD 347, $3.9 million, to build an addition to the elementary/junior high building.
  • Mercer County SD 404, $28 million, to alter, repair, and equip the high school building, including demolition and replacement of a classroom wing.
  • Morris CHSD 101, $67 million, to build and equip an addition to the high school building, including new classrooms, STEM labs, performing arts and other instructional spaces, and a cafeteria and library/media center.
  • Northbrook SD 28, $94.9 million, to replace one school building and renovate three junior high buildings.
  • Prairie Central CUSD 8 (Fairbury), $38 million, to build a new elementary school building and renovate the high school, junior high, and upper elementary buildings.
  • Triad CUSD 2 (Troy), $99.2 million, to build and equip a new middle school building and renovate and expand the CTE programming space at the high school.
  • Waltham CCSD 185 (Utica), $9.96 million, to build and equip an addition to the school building.
  • Washington SD 52, $23 million, to build and equip a new school building.
  • Westmont CUSD 201, $68.8 million, to build and equip a new school building to replace existing school buildings.
  • Winchester CUSD 1, $12 million, to alter, repair, and equip existing school buildings.
  • Winthrop Harbor SD 1, $10 million, to equip and alter the Westfield School including new classrooms, a new gym, and new parking lot.
School districts placing tax increases on the ballot include Cornell CCSD 426, Northbrook ESD 27, Prospect Heights SD 23, and Thomasboro CCSD 130.

Norris City-Omaha-Enfield CUSD 3 is requesting $3.2 million for a working cash fund from voters.

There are four Countywide Sales Tax propositions on the ballot. Voters will decide on a countywide 1% tax increase for school facilities, school resource officers, and mental health professionals in Clay, Hancock, McLean, and Warren counties.

Voters in the following districts will decide whether school board members should be elected at-large versus congressional township.
  • Central CUSD 4 (Ashkum)
  • Jonesboro CCSD 43
  • Sycamore CUSD 427
Voters in Ohio CHSD 505 will also voice their choice on the question, “Shall the Board of Education of Ohio Community High School District No. 505, Bureau and Lee County, Illinois, be authorized to deactivate the Ohio High School facility and to send pupils in Ohio High School to Amboy Community Unit District #272 and/or Bureau Valley Community Unit District #340.”
