Launched in 1913 by a group of school board members in Quincy, Illinois, IASB today includes active membership of more than 99% of the school boards in Illinois.
IASB’s mission is to build excellence in local school board governance. The Association actively engages with volunteer school board members by providing training, resources, and programming to effectively lead their local schools and to advocate for public education and the success of every child.

IASB • IASA • IASBO Joint Annual Conference (November 22-24, 2024)- A three-day event in downtown Chicago attracting thousands of school leaders (8,000+ attendees).
- Multiple sponsor levels and custom sponsor packages available.
- Programming includes keynote speakers, panel sessions, exhibit hall, award presentations, and focused learning sessions.
IASB Equity Immersion (Thursday, November 21, 2024)
- A day-long event held in conjunction with the Joint Annual Conference for high-level exposure to Illinois public school leaders.
- Programming includes dynamic table talks, vendors, and networking.
- Attendance in 2023 was 150.
ICSA School Law Seminar (November 22, 2024)
- A professional development event exclusively for school attorneys, held in conjunction with the Joint Annual Conference.
- Attracts a highly influential group of attendees who work directly with Illinois school boards.
- Approximate attendance is 200.
Division Meetings (21 Fall and 21 Spring meetings)
- A shorter event (typically 2-3 hours in the evening) with less travel time for board members and superintendents.
- Programming tailored to the needs of area school boards includes networking, peer recognition, learning, and professional development. Many of the fall meetings have a legislative focus.
- Approximate attendance is 35-180 per meeting.
