The second COSSBA Annual Conference is taking place in Dallas, Texas February 22-25, 2024. “Leading for the Future” is designed to help attendees “prepare for a future of limitless possibilities … make meaningful connections with other education professionals, and visit with industry vendors at the exhibitor showcase.” Representatives from the Illinois public education community are scheduled to present.
Details, the latest agenda, and registration information are now available via COSSBA. The Annual Members Meeting will take place on February 23. The event will feature a Pre-Conference Day hosted by the Urban Boards Alliance. That February 22 event is titled “Navigating Challenging Environments.” Registration is open.
The webinar series presented by COSSBA’s Urban Boards Alliance continues in the new year with Episode 4: “Unlocking Knowledge: Empowering Students Through Literacy,” on January 17, 2024. This session “aims to underscore the pivotal role literacy plays in driving student achievement, drawing insights from successful initiatives in school districts in both Missouri and Mississippi.” Recorded versions of the previous webinars can be viewed on-demand: “Empowering Rural Education,” “Food Insecurity and Public Education,” and “Poverty and Public Education.
COSSBA’s Advocacy Priorities include the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), child nutrition programs, technology access (broadband, connectivity, cybersecurity, E-rate), teacher and principal training and recruitment, increased funding for K-12 education, and prioritizing K-12 public education as schools of choice.
Recognizing “the value of working closely with business affiliates committed to advancing public education and support of state school boards associations across the United States,” the Consortium has announced its first COSSBA Partners.
Illinois is a founding member of COSSBA, a non-partisan, national alliance dedicated to sharing resources and information to support, promote and strengthen state school boards associations as they serve their local school districts and board members.
