Registration is open for the 2024 annual conference of the Consortium of State School Boards Associations. The three-day event, “Leading for the Future,” will take place February 22-25 in Dallas, Texas.

A preliminary agenda and registration for the COSSBA Conference are now available. Update: The early registration has been extended. Registration fees will now increase after December 14, 2023.

The event includes networking with other education professionals and an exhibitors showcase with industry vendors. Once again in 2024, the event will feature a Pre-Conference Day hosted by the Urban Boards Alliance. That February 22 event is titled “Navigating Challenging Environments.”

Topics planned include the latest trends and best practices in finance, governance, school safety, mental health, stakeholder engagement, student achievement, and the transformative potential of artificial intelligence.

Advocacy Priorities
COSSBA’s Advocacy Priorities include the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), child nutrition programs, technology access (broadband, connectivity, cybersecurity, E-rate), teacher and principal training and recruitment, increased funding for K-12 education, and prioritizing K-12 public education as schools of choice.

Federal Advocacy Recap
The 2023 Consortium of State School Board Associations (COSSBA) Federal Advocacy Conference was held in September. Participants included board of education members from 21 states including 15 school board members and seven administrators from Illinois. The group attended a day of informational sessions on a wide variety of national education issues, and then had a long and productive day lobbying on Capitol Hill.

Illinois is a founding member of COSSBA, which has a mission “to be a non-partisan, national alliance dedicated to sharing resources and information to support, promote and strengthen state school boards associations.”
