At the 2024 Joint Annual Conference in Chicago, IASB joined other statewide education organizations to unveil Vision 2030, a 10-year blueprint for excellence in K-12 public education.
Vision 2030 is rooted in the concept that students learn best, and educators teach most effectively, when they feel safe and connected to one another and to their communities.
“This is the single most important thing we can do to support both academic achievement and individual well-being —and it is something that has to be considered in our instructional approach, curriculum, student support services, and finances, so that local districts have the resources needed to ensure that school buildings are safe,” said IASB Executive Director Kimberly A. Small, J.D.
The policies outlined in Vision 2030 encompass three core priority areas: future-focused learning, shared accountability, and predictable funding. The initiative articulates a shared commitment to putting systems and processes in place that support all school districts throughout the state in sharing what works for students and communities. Vision 2030 includes plans to advance policy, legislative and fiscal solutions, leverage public resources, and preserve local flexibility and leadership so that the important decisions about curriculum and finances are made closest to home.
To show a wide range of statewide support and continued commitment to public education in communities throughout Illinois, IASB is asking Association member districts to place a board resolution in support of Vision 2030 on their public meeting agenda for action in December 2024/January 2025.
Additional outreach resources to help districts inform parents, staff, and community residents about Illinois Vision 2030 will be provided to IASB members in December.
Vision 2030 partner organizations include IASB, Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA), Illinois Association of School Business Officials (Illinois ASBO), Illinois Principals Association (IPA), Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools (IARSS), Association of Illinois Rural and Small Schools (AIRSS), plus the Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education (IAASE) and the Superintendents' Commission for the Study of Demographics and Diversity (SCSDD).
