IASB Holiday Office Calendar
IASB offices in Springfield and Lombard will be closed for the holidays at the conclusion of the business day on Friday, December 20, 2024 and reopen on Monday, January 6, 2025. The Illinois Association of School Boards wishes you a happy holiday season and looks forward to continued collaboration in the New Year as public education leaders work together on behalf of the public school students in Illinois.

New Inside IASB Podcast Features “Starting Right”
Inside IASB is a podcast series from IASB that offers information and encouragement to Illinois school board members.  The newest podcast features the Starting Right Workshop, a type of board self-evaluation that begins with a review of the board’s role in effective governance and continues with a discussion of the board expectations for communications, board superintendent relationships, board meetings, and much more. Learn more about this important work from Patrick Allen, Director of Outreach & Training and Isaac Warren, Director of Communications for Digital Communications.

Faith Promoted in Business Services
IASB congratulates Karen Faith, who effective January 1, 2025 will move into the role of Assistant Business Director in the IASB Office of Business Services. She joined IASB in August 2015 in the Business Office as an Assistant Manager. 

Updated Publication: Letting the Sunshine In
Letting the Sunshine In: School Board Meetings and Records is intended as a practical guide for school boards when dealing with the provisions contained in the Open Meetings Act (OMA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). This IASB guidance document was updated in Fall 2024.  
  • OMA, the Illinois Open Meetings Act (5 ILCS 120/1 et seq.), provides public access to the meetings of public bodies.
  • FOIA, the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/1 et seq.), ensures public access to records assembled, gathered, produced, and disseminated by public bodies.
Guidance and resources, including the updated Sunshine document, are available on the IASB website.
