The Illinois Association of School Boards is announcing organizational nomenclature changes and new staff alignments.
A new team has formed under the direction of Associate Executive Director Lori Grant and is called the Outreach, Training & Events department. Within that department will be Outreach & Training (formerly Field Services), Training Development (formerly Board Development), and Events Management (formerly Meetings Management).
Equity Services (formerly with Field Services), is now a department within the Office of the Executive Director and renamed Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Services. It is led by Director Maryam Brotine.
The Administrative Services department has also been retitled and is now called the Office of Business Services. It is led by Associate Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Feld.
The changes were effective as of July 1, 2024, and the new department and individual titles are reflected in the newly published IASB organizational chart and staff directory. The new alignments allow IASB to further fulfill its vision of excellence in local school board governance supporting quality public education. The changes will clarify roles and responsibilities in providing services to members and provide an opportunity for the Association to show inclusivity and belonging. IASB members accustomed to reaching out to their Field Services Directors will now reach out to Directors of Outreach & Training. The titles have changed but the services they provide remain the same.
Also effective July 1, 2024 are the following staff changes, as announced by Executive Director Kimberly Small, J.D.
Jim Helton will serve as IASB’s Associate Executive Director, Executive Searches on the IASB Administrative Team. Helton has been a consultant for that department since 2015 and replaces Patricia Sullivan-Vinyard, who will remain with the Association and the Executive Search department as a consultant.
Maryam Brotine, J.D., has been promoted to Associate General Counsel and will retain her role in that Office while also becoming IASB’s Director of DEI Services.
Debra Jacobson, J.D., has been promoted to Associate General Counsel and will also serve as PRESS Editor.
Isaac Warren has been promoted to Director, Digital Communications in the Communications and Production Services Department. Warren has been Assistant Director since joining the Association in 2019.

Tayler Heidbreder has accepted the position of Administrative Assistant and remains within the Policy Services department. Heidbreder has been a Policy Services Specialist since September 2023.
IASB is also announcing that Carla Bolt, Director of Events Management, will retire from IASB effective December 31, 2025, after 37 years of dedicated service. Bolt is both the heart and the backbone of the Joint Annual Conference.
Natalie Duke is now the Director Designee for Events Management to support the transition and will take on the role of Director in 2025. Duke began her career with IASB in May 2021 as Assistant Manager of the department and will maintain continuity in the department's critical role in planning the Joint Annual Conference and other events.
