Summer Schedule
The Springfield and Lombard offices of the Illinois Association of School Boards will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, in commemoration of Juneteenth, and on July 4 for Independence Day. The Association offices will also close on July 5, 12, and 19 for its traditional summer schedule.

Welcome New Staff Member
IASB welcomes Dara Merino to the staff as Assistant Director of Sponsorships in the Communications Department. Merino brings 16 years of experience in Illinois education, teaching and directing curriculum. She taught music, literacy, and physical education in public and parochial schools. Merino holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She resides in Springfield and will be based in the IASB Springfield Office.

Board Presidents’ Academy
IASB’s new Board Presidents’ Academy begins June 15 with the inaugural event in Naperville, which is sold out. Current and future board presidents can register for the June 22 Board Presidents’ Academy in Champaign or August 3 in Collinsville.

Policy Services Updates
Boards and others that subscribe to PRESS may now find PRESS Issue 115, Update Memo, and Committee Worksheets at PRESS Online. PRESS and PRESS Plus Issue 115 features updated material in response to school library grant rules, criminal history record information security requirements, five-year reviews, and miscellaneous updates. Those that subscribe to PRESS Plus, IASB’s full-maintenance policy updating service, have customized draft updates available at their PRESS Plus Online site.  A webinar, PRESS and PRESS Plus Issue 115: Soaking Up the Summer Updates, will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from Noon to 1 p.m. and will be archived for on-demand viewing.

Due Dates for IASB Programs
The deadline for member boards of education that wish to apply for the 2024 School Board Governance Recognition program is July 1. This program presents an opportunity for school boards to showcase how good governance is making a positive impact in their districts. An overview of the School Board Governance Recognition program and submission information is available on the IASB website.

IASB member boards of education have until June 26 to submit resolutions for consideration by the 2024 IASB Delegate Assembly. Resolution forms and accompanying information are available on the IASB website. Questions about submitting a resolution or about the Resolutions Process can be directed to the IASB Governmental Relations team.

The Exhibition of Educational Environments, sponsored by the IASB Service Associates, is an annual competition for outstanding school design projects. The juried awards program recognizes school designs for instructional, recreational, administrative, or other use. Eligible projects must be new or renovated facilities owned or operated by or by an Illinois public school district. The deadline for entries is July 12.
