IASB June Board of Directors Meeting Recap
The Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) convened for its regularly scheduled meeting on June 8, 2024 in Springfield, at which it approved strategic priorities and a budget for the new fiscal year beginning July 1.
IASB Executive Director Kimberly Small, J.D., presented the Board with a budget overview for the upcoming 2024-2025 Fiscal Year, which is projected to be in deficit. While the Board also approved a budget deficit last year, the Association is now on track to conclude the 2023-2024 fiscal year in a solid financial position. The surplus allows reinvestment in technology and programming to impact members while keeping fees stable.
Member engagement is the focus of the strategic priorities approved by the Board, providing direction for staff in the new fiscal year in support of IASB’s mission and vision. Goals have been established to enhance services and interactions with members, focusing on three key areas:
- Division Leadership – including training for division officers, marketing and communication, and high-caliber content.
- Joint Annual Conference – including listening tours and focus groups for planning, and incorporating students into programming.
- Website Access – including updating online learning access, search improvements, and design and functionality upgrades.
The Board’s discussion about the strategic priorities included how it will monitor progress and align work to its governance policies for Association operations.
The Board also received updates on Joint Annual Conference registrations and scholarship program, the IASB Constitution review, the General Assembly session ending, and meetings with the Illinois High School Association, Vision 2030, and the State Board of Education.
Board learning and meetings held with the quarterly business meeting included a continuation of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion training, and the executive director annual evaluation.
The next quarterly meeting of the IASB Board of Directors is scheduled for August 23-25 in Bloomington-Normal. IASB members can access approved minutes from previous meetings on the IASB website.
