Filing Period Arrives Early, and More Candidate Information
The Illinois Association of School Boards offers a wealth of information for school board candidates. An important note for this election cycle is a change in filing dates. The filing period runs November 12 through November 18, 2024. This filing period is earlier than in previous elections due to a change in election law.
Candidate resources include the How to Navigate Running for School Board series of livestream webinars. Recordings of past webinars on petition circulation and filing economic interest statements are available now. The final two livestreams will be November 14 (Petition Filing) and December 5 (Understanding the Board Member’s Role). Information available for all school board candidates includes important dates, roles and qualifications, and filing information.
School Board Members Day is November 15
Illinois celebrates School Board Members Day on November 15. Districts can find resources that can be used to recognize local board members and follow recognition activities on social media using #ThankABoardMember. Districts are encouraged to create a short video message to express gratitude to their local boards of education. Information on participating is available online.
