Recognize School Board Members on November 15

November 15 is School Board Members Day in Illinois. The date is a chance to build community awareness about the essential role of volunteer school board members and thank them for providing the local governance necessary to shape the future of community school districts. This honorary day provides an opportunity to give them the recognition they have earned!

IASB has a number of materials to recognize local boards of education for their dedication to students, staff, and the many others in the community who benefit from having a high quality, thriving school district. Recognition materials include images, activity suggestions, sample key messages, an honorary certificate, and social media content that can be used to recognize members of your school board. Some resources are available in English and Spanish.

Please consider creating a short video message to express your gratitude and share what it means to have dedicated school board members who are passionate about your district and a successful future for its students. Districts are welcome to invite students and community members to participate in the recognition messages or produce their own video that can be uploaded to the video service. The video messages can be recorded from a computer or phone (or any device that has a camera) and submitted with a single click.

Message submissions are due by November 1. IASB will share the videos on our social media platforms in November using #ThankABoardMember. Districts are also encouraged to share their School Board Member Day recognition activities using the hashtag.
