The Joint Annual Conference brings together thousands of school leaders for leadership and learning for Illinois public schools. That purpose is amplified when students participate. The 2024 Joint Annual Conference will include several student features, emphasizing the importance of student success.
One of the highlights of the Annual Conference is the opportunity for students to showcase their musical talents. In partnership with the Illinois Music Educators Association, student musical performances will open the Friday and Saturday General Sessions and also entertain attendees during the Thursday Equity Immersion and the Friday Focus Workshops. Student musicians will also perform the National Anthem at the Friday General Session and JROTC students will present the colors.
This year Conference will also feature an installation of over 30 pieces of Illinois student artwork, courtesy of the Illinois Art Education Association. The art will be displayed throughout the Conference ballroom foyer of the Hyatt Regency headquarters hotel.
In addition to the visual and performing arts, there will be opportunities for students to be present.
Student board members and representatives are again invited to join board members for the highly-rated Friday Focus Workshop, “Breaking Down the Walls: Bringing Student Voice to the Board Table.” Board members are encouraged to invite student board members, ambassadors, or representatives for a day of team and culture building. The workshop will include a breakout session where students will connect with fellow student leaders from across the state, as board members develop governance best practices to give students a voice at the table. At the end of the day, registered student leaders are invited to attend the opening General Session of the Joint Annual Conference.
IASB extends an annual invitation to the Illinois FFA for a representative to participate in the Saturday Delegate Assembly and observe the parliamentary process. The student representative often shares remarks with delegates about their parliamentary experience through FFA or the impact of the FFA on public schools and their surrounding communities.
The Annual Conference will take place November 22-24 in Chicago. A schedule of Conference events is available on the Conference website. Check the Conference webpage for updates and follow along on social media using #ILjac24 for further notifications.
