The Consortium of State School Boards Associations (COSSBA) annual conference will take place March 21-23 in Atlanta, with the Unified Boards Alliance Pre-Conference Day on March 20.

Registration remains open for the event, themed “Education for All: Bridging Gaps, Breaking Barriers.” Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the latest trends and best practices in conference tracks on topics such as finance, governance, school safety, mental health, stakeholder engagement, student achievement, and artificial intelligence's transformative potential.
Illinois will again be represented among the presenters. Scheduled to present as of February 12 are
  • Jim Batson, Board President, CHSD 128 (Vernon Hills): AI: Board Member Roles and Responsibilities. What Every Board Member Should Know
  • Corrin Bennett-Kill and Jennifer Ciok, School Board Members at Mount Prospect SD 57: Building a Village: How Student Voice and Community Engagement Enhance Initiative Success
  • David Hill, Superintendent, CCSD 93, Bloomingdale: Fostering Governance Excellence: Effective Onboarding & Support for New Board Members
  • Andrew Sharos, CSBO of Leyden CHSD 212: Leading with a Culture of Success in Your District
  • Nicole Terrell-Smith, Superintendent, Pembroke CCSD 259: How Did We Get Here? Understanding the Challenges and Opportunities in Rural Education

IASB staff will be presenting as well. Lori Grant, Associate Executive Director for Outreach, Training & Events, will speak on the topic of student voice. Katie Bulava, Director of Outreach and Training, will present two sessions for administrative professionals.

Webinar Series
The next event in the COSSBA webinar series is on April 15 at 11 a.m. (Central Time). Building a Team to Foster Comprehensive Mental Health Support Services offers school board members the opportunity to learn how to enhance the well-being of students, families, and school staff by building a comprehensive student support program that focuses on mental health issues. Registration is open and available on the COSSBA webinars webpage, at which you can also access past webinars for on-demand viewing.

National School Safety Symposium
COSSBA is announcing details for the new National School Safety Symposium, taking place June 25-27 in St. Louis. Presented in collaboration with the Missouri School Boards’ Association Center for Education Safety and Pennsylvania School Safety Institute (PENNSSI), the event is designed for or district safety teams, including superintendents, school resource officers, school board members, communications directors, and district safety officers. More information is available on the COSSBA Events website.
