Letting the Sunshine In: School Board Meetings and Records is intended as a practical guide for school boards and administrators when dealing with the myriad of provisions contained in the Open Meetings Act (OMA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).Both the FOIA and OMA statutes are intended to provide public access to units of local government in Illinois. The “sunshine laws” include:
- Illinois Open Meetings Act (5 ILCS 120/1 et seq.), which provides public access to the meetings of public bodies.
- Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/1 et seq.), which ensures public access to records assembled, gathered, produced, and disseminated by public bodies.
